Product Description

Transformer Turns Ratio Tester

The Transformer Turns Ratio Tester (full name: Automatic Transformer Turns Ratio and Vector Group Tester) is a new generation of intelligent testing instrument used by the power industry to measure transformer turns ratio, vector group, and error. It is mainly used for production, commissioning tests, and preventive testing of power transformers, effectively supervising product quality and preventing defects such as inter-turn short circuits, open circuits, incorrect connections, and internal faults in tap changers.

🔬 Core Technical Principles

Modern automatic turns ratio testers use a microcontroller as the core for measurement calculation and automatic control. The instrument generates a low-voltage test power supply (usually three-phase or single-phase) internally, simultaneously collects voltage waveforms on the high and low voltage sides through high-speed ADC, and uses digital sampling and DSP (Digital Signal Processing) technology to calculate the ratio of fundamental components to obtain the turns ratio and phase angle. This technology overcomes the disadvantages of traditional turns ratio bridges, such as cumbersome operation and narrow measurement range, and offers advantages like high speed, high accuracy, and strong anti-interference capability.

🛠️ Main Functional Features

Automated Measurement: Automatically measures the vector group, automatically switches phase sequence and range, and automatically calibrates the meter. After inputting the standard turns ratio, it can automatically calculate the relative error.

Blind Measurement Function: Without pre-selecting the wiring mode or vector group, the instrument can automatically switch wiring modes based on the test content and automatically identify the group number.

Comprehensive Testing Capability: Supports turns ratio testing for single-phase, three-phase transformers, and instrument transformers; accurately measures the turns ratio and error at each tap changer position.

Advanced Analysis Functions: High-end models are equipped with a large color LCD screen that can display a hexagonal vector diagram in real time, intuitively reflecting the transformer connection group, and also have phase angle measurement capabilities.

Safety and Storage: Features overcurrent protection and high-low voltage reverse connection protection; test data can be automatically saved and printed, with some models supporting USB export.

📊 Instrument Classification

Based on technical principles, application scenarios, and integration levels, turns ratio testers on the market are mainly divided into the following categories:

By Technical Principle: Divided into traditional types (turns ratio bridges, which are basically obsolete) and digital types (automatic turns ratio testers, currently the mainstream in the market).

By Function and Application Scenario:

General-purpose (portable): Small size, light weight, mostly powered by lithium batteries, suitable for daily maintenance of distribution transformers up to 35kV.

Professional (dedicated to three-phase/special transformers): Strong anti-interference capability, wide measurement range, suitable for power transformers at 110kV and above, or special transformers such as Z-type transformers, rectifier transformers, and Scott transformers.

Handheld (quick screening): Extremely portable, relatively simple functions, used for on-site rapid inspection to determine whether there are obvious inter-turn short circuits in transformers.

By Number of Phases: Divided into single-phase testers and three-phase testers. Three-phase testers have internal three-phase power output, allowing three-phase turns ratio testing with a single connection, offering high efficiency.

When purchasing a transformer turns ratio tester, it is recommended to focus on the following key factors:

Vector Group Testing Capability: Confirm whether the instrument has automatic group identification, which is especially important for testing imported or old non-standard transformers.

Special Transformer Testing Algorithms: If involving electric furnace transformers, rectifier transformers, or Scott transformers, ensure that the instrument menu explicitly includes dedicated testing algorithms for such transformers; otherwise, significant phase errors may occur.

Anti-interference Performance: In strong electromagnetic environments at substations, check whether the instrument supports "heterodyne frequency measurement" (e.g., 45Hz/55Hz non-power frequency measurement) to avoid on-site interference.

Waveform Display and Analysis Functions: Instruments with real-time hexagonal diagram (vector diagram) display can not only judge whether the turns ratio is qualified but also help analyze whether the CT/PT wiring polarity is correct and internal phase angle difference hazards.

Extended Functions: Some high-end models can also measure the turns ratio of voltage transformers (PT) and current transformers (CT) by connecting an external standard voltage transformer or using direct low-voltage excitation, saving purchase costs.

Power Off and Grounding: Tests must be conducted after the transformer is completely de-energized, voltage verified, and grounding wires installed. Before wiring, ensure the instrument is turned off and properly grounded.

Correct Wiring: Strictly distinguish between high and low voltage side connections; reverse connection is strictly prohibited. If the test leads are short-circuited or high and low voltage are reversed, the fuse will blow.

Standard Operation: During measurement, do not touch the test object. Before switching tap changers, press the "Stop" or "Reset" button on the instrument to cut off the test signal.

Environmental Requirements: The work area should be far from strong electric fields, strong magnetic fields, and high-frequency equipment; the power supply interference should be as low as possible.
